Reunion MHS Class of 1963

Seems October is a good time for reunions family or class.  Homecoming weekend holds a magic that draws young and old to either make memories or relive them.  It's chilly, finally, pumpkins and chrysanthemums abound. In our case Blue and Gold is everywhere with a Devil in the middle.  Yes it's reunion time in Mathews County, Virginia

My husband graduated in 1963 from MHS.  Being a "come here" from 4th grade it might have taken him a while to gravitate to the happenings of Gwynn's Island School but he held on until he ended up in Mathews High.  His class consisted of friends from the Island and also new ones from the mainland.  At that time we didn't have Little League or Pee Wee Football for kids from all over the county to meet.  We had different schools through out the County and the kids from each seemed to stay with their peers. But this 1963 Class became life long friends, fast.  They bonded in a way that I've never seen before.  To this day when they get together it's like they just saw each other yesterday. Oh the laughter, the stories, the fun.

I feel there were many class clowns because they all have such an impish way about them.  Wouldn't take long for them to be back in that car, throwing eggs with Sheriff Spencer Hodges stopping them and confiscating said weapon.  Or on a "hoodle" to Richmond to the Mosque to see Jimmy Hendrix with a stop at Julians to make the evening complete.  Scoping out Sutts and Donks on Saturday night might seem lame to some but it kept many going round and round for hours ever tipping as friends went by. Tin Can Alley beach parties with cars getting stuck in the ditch were not too uncommon.  I'm sure there was a Chrysler involved with many a nights happenings.

Graduation came and friends left to seek higher education or employment.  Holidays were filled with reconnecting as much as possible until even those seemed to fade.  But, when they all came together for whatever reason fun would ensue.

So here's to 55th Class of 1968.  I hope the memories are as sweet even though some may need prompting.  The enjoyment y'all  have seeing each other is unreal.  Knowing my husband has you guys covering his back makes me so happy.  I'm proud to be another wife y'all have accepted into your fold.  Feels good as a "young-in" to know you like me, you really like me! As you start your Reunion weekend next week I know you will have a great time.  Sorry for the friends who won't be there but they surely will be missed.  Hope their ears don't burn too much.  Looking forward to seeing Skip's smiling face as he relives his time with each and everyone of you.  Thanks for allowing us to tag along as once again you create a memorable time with good ole friends.
